**Please note, the deadline for apprenticeship applications has now passed and the mentees have been chosen, but WordFactory will be looking for two new apprentices next year**
I’m going to be mentoring one short story writer over six months as part of the WordFactory apprenticeship scheme.
We’ll meet or chat on the phone/over email every month, and I’ll offer feedback on your work, and give whatever career guidance I can.
As well as spending time with me, or with the other WordFactory mentor, the brilliant Nicholas Royle, you’ll get:
• free entry to all WordFactory events and seminars
• a £250 Waterstones voucher
• one-to-one career consultations from literary agent Carrie Kania
• access to workshops from Spread the Word in London
• to read your work at one of the WordFactory events at Waterstones Piccadilly (if you’re anything like I was when I first started out, the idea of this may well terrify you enough to not apply, but trust me, after successfully overcoming my own anxieties about reading aloud I can help you get comfortable on a stage too).
In exchange, you’ll become part of the WordFactory family and get involved with the monthly events (and a very lovely family it is too).
The submission deadline is 1 September 2014.
Full details on how to apply are on the WordFactory Apprenticeship page.
When I started out writing and struggled with rejections for so many years, I would have loved an opportunity like this, so I’m really excited to be able to help another writer take a step or two closer to their writing dream, whatever that may be.

Amazing! When people ask me who my biggest influences are, you’re always on the list, so I’m definitely applying!
