Next month I’ll be doing two gigs for the awesome WordFactory:
On Friday 8 November at 7pm, I will be reading at Hauntings: Ghost Stories at Earlsfield Cemetery, alongside Stella Duffy, Tania Hershman and Alex Preston. Can’t wait. It’s going to be spooktacular. Tickets are £10 if booked before 31st October, £12 in advance, and £15 on the door. You can find out more here.
On Saturday 9 Nov, I’ll be part of Start Small: Think Big, an exclusive weekend of short story workshops. I’ll be teaching alongside David Vann, Deborah Levy, Julia Bell and Alison Moore. Literary agent and publisher Carrie Kania will give advice on how to reach the right agent, and WordFactory and Sunday Times EFG short story award founder Cathy Galvin will give individual feedback on your work. The workshops will take place at Birkbeck College in London, 10am-6pm on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November. You can find out more here.
About WordFactory
If you’re a short story fan and you’ve not yet come across WordFactory, it’s a series of short story salons that brings readers and writers together for wine and chatting and enjoying short stories. The vibe is informal, friendly and intimate.
I recommend that you check out their website: www.thewordfactory.tv, friend them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter to get invites to upcoming story salons and story workshops, and to see their regular writer interviews and videos of salon performances from folk like Hanif Kureishi, Lionel Shriver, Alexei Sayle, Joe Dunthorne, David Constantine, Roshi Fernando, Alison MacLeod and a whole bunch more. You can also see all their readings and interviews videos over on the WordFactory Vimeo page.
Check out this great piece about the inspiration behind WordFactory by its founder, Cathy Galvin.
To get a feel for the events, check out my blogs about the first WordFactory story salon, and the London launch of The Stone Thrower at the salon.
And finally, a tip: it’s worth booking your place as soon as the invites go out, because their events almost always sell out in advance.
