I’ll be out and about in September and October to launch my new short story collection, The Stone Thrower…
Sun 30 Sept – Small Wonder.6pm. Tickets £9 (£8 Students).
Charleston Farm House, Nr Lewes, East Sussex BN8 6LL.
Oh I love the Small Wonder short story festival: the only literature festival with its own branded beer, where mooing cows sometimes accompany the readings, where the crowd is as warm as they come (and if they get cold during the nighttime readings, blankets are passed around), all in the grounds of Charleston – former haunt of the Bloomsbury gang. I’ll be sharing the stage with MJ Hyland and AL Kennedy in an event chaired by Sigrid Rausing, Granta’s publisher. Can’t wait. Full event details and booking here.
Thurs 18 Oct – Lancaster Litfest6.30pm. Tickets £8/£6.
The Dukes in the Round.
I’ve read at the Litfest a couple of times before, and it’s always been a blast. The first time I went there it was Halloween; Clare Wigfall and I walked up to the Priory and were shown an old carving beneath one of the pews of a masturbating angel. Most memorable. I’m very glad to be going back to the Litfest, especially as I’ll be reading with fellow Comma author, David Constantine, who is also launching his new collection Tea at the Midland.
Sun 21 Oct – Manchester Literature Festival3pm. Tickets £5/£3 concessions.
International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Cambridge Street, Manchester.
Whenever I’ve read in Manchester, it’s always been in the coolest venues. I launched Instruction Manual For Swallowing at the Godlee Astronomical Observatory in a tower atop Manchester University, and now I’ll be launching The Stone Thrower at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation – better polish up my Nadsat. I’ll be reading with fellow Comma author Guy Ware, who is launching his new collection You have 24 hours to love us. Event details and booking here.
Sat 27 Oct – The Story Salon, at The Society Club6–8pm.
12 Ingestre Place, Soho London, W1F OJF
The Story Salon is the brand new lit night from the lovely Cathy Galvin – short story champion and creator of the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award. I’m so proud to be launching my new book in London here, in the esteemed company of David Vann, Zoe Lambert and Chris Paling.
